Barberry Root

Historically, Barberry root (Berberris vulgaris) was believed to be used by North American Indians for treating the liver. Physicians have found that it is believed to increase the secretion of bile, eliminating stress on the liver when it is contaminated by impure blood. Barberry may assist in reducing inflammation of the spleen caused by irritation due to contaminated blood and may be effective at loosening obstructions in the intestinal tract. Barberry contains an alkaloid called berberine that is believed to dilate blood vessels, thereby lowering blood pressure. It may help to strengthen the body and invigorate the system by alleviating anemia and general malnutrition. It has also believed to be effective in cases of jaundice. Barberry soothes and works to heal sore throats when used as a gargle and mouthwash. Used to alleviate anemia and malnutrition.
